What’s SHFE?The Sunny Hills Foundation for Education (SHFE) is a 501(c)3 non-profit educational organization founded by Sunny Hills High School (SHHS) parents that is dedicated to raising funds to improve the High School’s academic, artistic, and athletic programs.Why a Foundation?Being a great school is not an accident. Virtually all of the best high schools now have foundations to raise money to supplement public funds. This includes Brea High, Fullerton High, and Troy High in our own area.The last few years have been the most competitive years in history for college admissions and we believe that colleges and universities will continue to receive record numbers of applications. SHFE wants to ensure that SHHS students are prepared. Sunny Hills High School’s public funding is approximately 10% below the state average. To excel in a highly technological and competitive world, SHHS needs additional sources of funds. What’s the Money For?The money raised by the foundation will be used to purchase equipment and supplies for academic, athletic, and art departments at Sunny Hills.Who Decides What to Buy?The foundation’s board will use the money to purchase items based on a prioritized wish list provided by SHHS Principal and his department heads.How Much Goes to the School?All of it. So far, all of the foundations expenses have been underwritten by donations by board members. Your donation will go directly to purchasing items for the school. In the future, it is likely that some funds will be held to cover mailings and other operating expenses of the foundation. We intend to spend only the minimum amount necessary to operate the foundation. Who Will Donate?SHFE hopes that you will, but if you can’t, try to solicit a donation from your business or employer. They are more likely to help us if you approach them directly. Ideally, you’ll make a contribution and your employer will match it (many do).How Can My Business Help?If your business or employer has products or services to donate and would like some exposure in the community, please contact SHFE. We’ll make sure that your business receives the recognition that it deserves.What About PTSA and KPA?SHFE will work closely with the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA), the Korean Parents Association (KPA), and other support groups and booster clubs at Sunny Hills. We encourage you to continue to support these organizations.How Else Can I Help?Contact SHFE about volunteer opportunities.
