Special Projects

Currently we have a couple of special projects which are independent of the general fund which we would like to highlight for you. They are the “PAC Adopt-A-Chair” and the “Sunny Hills High School Sign” projects. Read about these projects below.

If you or someone you know is interested in donating to one of these projects, please be sure that the donation is specifically identified to that projects title, otherwise the funds will be earmarked for the general fund and will be put to good use elsewhere. All denominations are welcome and greatly appreciated.

SUNNY HILLS HIGH SCHOOL SIGN PROJECT
Sunny Hills Monument Sign

This school year we are celebrating Sunny Hills High School’s 50th Anniversary. Through the years we have had a couple of different monuments at the top of the hill with no visibility to the general public. More recently the marquee was installed at the rear entrance of the school with limited public visibility, but it is hard to think that we’ve never had a sign at the corner of Warburton Way and Bastanchury Road, the gateway to Sunny Hills.

This has been a topic of discussion for some time now. A committee was formed and thanks to the generous donation of professional services and/or time from our alumni Eric Kough and Cheri Curry from the class of 1982, we’ve launched the project into the research and development phase and have a conceptual drawing which was displayed at “A Taste of Sunny Hills”.  The sign’s conceptual design incorporates “green” technology with solar panels to provide night lighting and a timeless look.

Thanks to the SHFE, Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) and Korean Parents Association (KPA), we have already received several donations towards the project, but we have many more milestones to put behind us and more funds to raise ahead of us before we reach our ultimate milestones of breaking ground and sign completion. We have a Facebook page titled, "Sunny Hills High School Sign". Please visit the site to see the latest updates regarding the project’s progress. For additional information, donation of funds, goods or services, please contact the Committee Chair, Carla Neiswender at: carla@sunnyhillsfoundation.com

PAC ADOPT-A-CHAIR PROJECT
How many times have you had the chance to be an audience member and enjoy the Performing Arts Center (PAC)? During the course of a year, you have several opportunities to enjoy seeing our choir, plays, musicals, Drama-a-thon, Comedy Night, band or just simply gather to hold an organization or community meeting.

Well, it’s time to reinvest in one of our schools greatest assets and our audience. In conjunction with the Arts Department, the SHFE has been collecting donations in our quest to replace all 200 chairs in the PAC. To date we have raised $7,000 of the $30,000 needed to achieve this feat. For a sponsor’s $300 donation, he/she/they will  have a name plaque placed on a chair as well as be recognized on a wall display as you enter the PAC.

You’ve probably heard the phrase, “… their 15 minutes of fame”? Well, this isn’t just 15 minutes, it is every performance, every laugh, tear and cheer of recognition from those who sit in that seat. We invite those parents, relatives, business partners or friends who would like to sponsor a chair or obtain more information about the project to please contact Co-Committee Chair, Cathy Geringer at: geringerc@aol.com
